Growing up in Far Western NSW in the 1980’s, Sports Clean Managing Director Kate Luffman is aware of the challenges of remote education. Her early education was in a small room on her family station near Tilpa NSW communicating with teachers & other students through two way radio to Broken Hill School of the Air.

A 2020 return visit to the region with her family talking with old friends and hearing stories of the challenges the communities along the Darling River faced ignited a desire to not only reconnect but establish an ongoing partnership with the region through Sports Clean.

As 2020 drew to a close Kate reflected not only on the many business challenges the year presented but also the good fortune experienced by Sports Clean throughout the year.  An opportunity to contribute to the Darling region also presented itself & a decision was made to make a donation of $2,000 to the Wilcannia Central School in support of their music program in lieu of individual corporate gifts.  In this extract from her email to Clients, Kate announced the donation made…

The recipient of our donation is Wilcannia Central School. Wilcannia is located on the bank of the Darling-Barka River 150km South West of Tilpa, which is the community where my Family had a Sheep Property. Wilcannia has a small population of 750 people and the school is doing some fabulous things, including their music teacher winning the ARIA Music Teacher of the year Award this year!

A very inspirational story – see the highlights in the YouTube video below:

Sports Cleans donation is being used to sponsor Acknowledgement Day at the school and will fund buying the book prizes and sporting equipment vouchers for the day. We are just delighted to be able to offer this help.

The positive feedback we received from both our Clients and the Wilcannia School was both encouraging and uplifting. In acknowledging the donation the School advised  ….

We purchased books and prizes to acknowledge students leadership, academic achievement and citizenship…. and they were received with great excitement.

Sports Clean is pleased to have contributed in this way and will continue to identify projects in the region, both social and environmental where it can make a contribution in 2021.
