Supporting remote students through education, connection and creativity

Continuing our commitment to remote communities

Sports Clean is proud to continue its support programme with remote communities along the Darling River, supporting local needs through practical assistance, maintenance expertise and financial contributions.

Managing Director Kate Luffman has a strong personal connection to the region, having lived, grown up and been schooled in this remote part of New South Wales. Kate continues to maintain close local ties and visits the area regularly.

Through these connections, Sports Clean responds to requests from local communities, contributing time, resources and donations where they can make a meaningful difference.

A donation for 2026

In 2026, the third year of the programme, Sports Clean is pleased to announce a donation to School of the Air (SOTA) – Broken Hill Campus.

SOTA provides distance education to students living in remote New South Wales, South Australia and southern Queensland. For families in isolated locations, the school offers not only access to education, but also an important sense of community and connection.

Kate’s own experience reflects the lasting impact of SOTA. Growing up on a remote sheep station near Tilpa, she completed her early education through SOTA Broken Hill, with lessons conducted by correspondence and occasional assemblies and classes delivered by two-way radio.

While technology has changed significantly since then, SOTA’s purpose remains the same: giving students in remote locations access to educational opportunities and social connection comparable to those available in towns and cities. This spirit is captured in the school motto, “Parted but United.”

Supporting creativity at the annual Mini School

SOTA Principal Kylie Green has expressed her thanks and advised that Sports Clean’s 2026 donation will help fund the attendance of a specialist art teacher at the 2026 Mini School.

Although many lessons are conducted remotely, the SOTA programme also creates opportunities for students to gather in Broken Hill for regular school activities throughout the year, including mini schools, sports events and music activities. Sports Clean looks forward to hearing more about the impact of the art programme following the 2026 Mini School.
